Fethiye, previously known as Telmessos, is located on the Lycian and Carian border. It is evident from the ancient ruins that during the Hellenistic and Roman periods life here was rich and highly cultured. There are the rock tombs of Amyntas, King of Telmessos; built high on the slope overlooking the Bay of Fethiye. The tombs’ façade is in the style of an Ionic Temple. The amphitheatre situated opposite the quay is typically Roman in style. It was built in the second Century on the ruins of a previously built Greek-style theatre. |
